How We Cultivate Personal Responsibility

Participation in Personal Growth

Through years of experience, it is clear that providing individuals with a ‘handout’ does not foster the attitudes and tools that a person needs to grow past their need and take positive steps forward in their life. By creating an environment where individuals can grow in personal responsibility, flourishing occurs as that person recognizes their God-given gifts and assumes ownership of their choices, needs, and plans for the future.

Education and Volunteering

The Canby Center offers a myriad of educational classes to the community that encourage individuals in their lifelong pursuit of learning: basic finance, home ownership, tax preparation, sewing, healthy cooking, strengthening relationships classes, and more. The Thriving Together program specifically requires that members take a finance class and volunteer monthly at TCC. Membership in this model teaches collaboration in community while strengthening human dignity.
